The Word "GOD" Search Puzzle for Preschoolers

My new Preschool/Kindergarten class has a couple of young children. They are just starting out with letters and words. We are going over the lesson about when Daniel interpreted the writing on the wall for King Belshazzar. I thought it would be great to have the kids learn how to write the name of God to go along with this lesson. So I put together this very simple word search.

The name of God is written over and over throughout the puzzle. I only put the name of God up and down and forwards. There are no backwards or diagonal. I didn’t want them to get discouraged as they were trying to find the right letters in the right order. It’s sort of a first word search for early readers/spellers. I can just picture my class spelling G-O-D over and over while they are finding the name in the puzzle. Repetition is a great way to learn and this is just that.
To get them started, you, as the teacher, can talk about how to spell God and even write it on the white board to help them in the beginning. I don’t think it will take them very long to catch on though. Completing this puzzle will give your children confidence in their spelling/reading as well as teaching them how to spell the name of God.

  1. Thank you. I love this. I also taught them how to special Jesus by using the BINGO song.
I have a very special friend and Jesus is His name O
    J E S U S. J E S U S. J E S U S
And Jesus is His name O
I used card stock and printed a letter on each sheet. The children (only 5 of them) held the card up when we sang the letter. When we were clapping that letter they turned their back. We repeated Jesus at the end so they turned back when their letter was called and held their card up high,
It was a big hit with the children and they loved to have a turn holding up their card.

  2. This is such a great idea. I find that kids age 3-5 love finding and recognizing words. I’ve often shown kids a word and then had them find it in the Bible verse poster or other teaching material. Great pre-reading activity!
