Twister Game Bible Object Lesson
It is no secret that I love classic games! For teaching they work well because classic game brands, like Twister are recognizable and most of the class is familiar with game play rules. I recently found an old Twister game at the local thrift store and was able to put the Twister game mat to use as an object lesson. I spread out the mat and wrote the word SIN on one dot in each color. I tacked the mat on the wall for the kids to see as I presented the following object lesson:
Hi Kids! Who can tell me what this is? Right! It’s a Twister game! Who can tell me how to play this game? (Let a few children explain the rules.) That’s what I thought too but then I saw these special spots. Gee, what does that say? (Point to a spot that says SIN) Right, it says SIN. I was not sure that everyone knew what the word meant so I looked it up in the Bible. Let’s all do that together before we try to play this Twister game.
Who can find me these verses?
James 4:17 “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.”
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”
John 8:34 “Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin.”
Hebrews 10:26 “For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins.”
When the lesson was over, I took the mat off the wall (put the pins away) and we took turns playing Twister but we had to avoid the SIN spots. It was a great way to teach kids that they should avoid sin at every turn! We used the spinner to direct children where their hands and feet should go but they had to avoid the SIN dots. We had a blast!
