Top 100 Children's Ministry Blogs (Original 2010 Rankings)

Print Friendly and PDF

Update: The new rankings for 2015 kids ministry blogs are now online.

In the past, I’ve tried to rank some of the top kidmin blogs. We even had a bracket style blog tournament last March. But those attempts were too subjective and diidn’t offer a real ranking for blogs below the very top.
That’s why I’ve spend many hours over the last week building this nearly definitive ranking of children’s ministry blogs. Click here to read about the ranking factors or grab a badge for your site.

Update: Here are some blogs that didn’t make the list because I didn’t know about them. The official rankings stand, but watch out next year!

  • CM connect blogs: It’s a meta feed of all the blog posts from their community members.

How These Rankings Work

I started by gathering all the blogs listed on our BIG LIST into a spreadsheet, then I compiled the following data. Next, I came up with an equation to give each factor it’s own weight. I ย did made a few tweaks for data irregularities before sorting by total score.
PPW = Posts Per Week
This figure came from Google Reader and indicates which blogs are the most active.
GRS = Google Readers Subscribers
This stat also came from Google Reader and who has more subscribers. It does not account for blogs that have multiple RSS feeds available, but it’s fairly reliable for comparison.
PA= Page Authority:
This is based on Open Site Explorer’s link graph. More quality sites linking to a blog indicate a positive reputation.
PI= Pages Indexed
This is the number of pages from a site stored in Google’s index. It can indicate whether a site has a largeย collectionย of original content.
Bonus = Blog Madness Votes
Last March we let the Internet decide which kidmin blogs were the most popular. So I added a bonus from the final 16 blogs in our tournament according to their total votes. ย This indicates a loyal readership that will take action based on your recommendations.
Factors Not Considered

  • Traffic Estimates: These are notoriously unreliable and often mean nothing. Good traffic growth is closely related to all the factors above.
  • Technorati: Their authority rankings fluctuate too wildly to reflect a blog’s long term importance.
  • Personal Preference: My attempt was to make this objective.
  • Comment Counts: I just didn’t have time to sample the comment numbers from each blogs recent 25 posts.

There you have it! Please leave your comments below to dispute the list or it’s math. If you’re one of these bloggers, you can also write up your thoughts on this list on a post on your own site.
