This simple presentation can be acted out several times to give more children a chance to participate. Please leave your comments below to share ideas for using this drama element in your ministry. We’ve also posted a “modern day” version of this Bible story called Marty & Mabel.

Script:

Narrator: Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home.
Martha: Lord! Lord! Please come into my home. You can relax and have a good meal.
(they move into the home)
Martha: (showing Jesus the chair) Please have a seat here and I’ll start preparing everything.
(Jesus sits down along with His disciples. Mary comes in and sits down at Jesus’ feet)
(Martha goes to the “kitchen” area and begins mixing, pouring, etc.)
Narrator: She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word.
Martha: (looks over and sees Mary, rolls her eyes and wipes her brow)
Narrator: But Martha was distracted with all her preparations.
Martha: (walks up to Jesus – in a huff) Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.”
Jesus: Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
