Use these free printable illustrations to teach children about taming the tongue. They are a powerful discussion starter about the dangers that talking can bring into our lives. These pictures will get the attention of older kids and help them talk about the importance of what we say. See James 3:1-12 for a good scripture to discuss along with this activity.

A note from Elgin about the “hanging” theme in this illustration.
As an African American myself, I am aware of the negative associations linked to hanging of African Americans during a dark time in our history. The Word of God teaches us in Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood,( evil white men) but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places”) In other words it was the spirit if evil driving people to do these things. Realizing who our true enemy is gives us grace to have mercy upon those who did us evil.
My intention in creating this image was to call attention to an important truth about the power of our words, and how the enemy takes opportunity to snare ANYONE who is HUMAN. In creating an African American character my intention is to create work that features images African American teachers can share with their students.
