Jesus' Family Tree: Matthew 1:1-16 & Luke 3:23-38 Genealogy

Print Friendly and PDF

family-treeI was reading in the Bible where it lists the genealogy of Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:1-16 & Luke 3:23-38). I thought how great would it be for the students in my class to learn about Jesus’ family tree and the bloodline that He came from in order to fulfill prophecy of the Old Testament?
So I put together these cards that will end up looking like a tree in the end, if you follow the format that I have provided. On each card, it gives a basic “title” for each of the people to help the students remember who they are, as well as one to two Bible verses that relate to that person.
These cards can be used in a couple of different ways. One way would be to hand the sheet out with all of the cards to each student and put it together while reading what’s on the cards. Another way would be to do a separate lesson on each of the people listed on the cards and add their card one at a time as you learn a little more about each one. That’s what’s great about being a teacher is that you can use things as you see best for your students or your own children at home.

My students used a manila file folder to make their own Jesus’ Family Tree Project. On the front of the folder, they drew a cross and made it into a tree. Then they glued the genealogy of Jesus lists on the tree (see format picture given). Then on the inside of the folder they glued the cards in the shape of a tree (see format picture given). I had them color the God card yellow, the Jesus card brown, and all the others green to look like a tree.
These cards have multiple uses and I hope you are able to use them with your children! Enjoy learning about Jesus’ Family Tree!
