St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday with the strongest Christian roots. It’s the celebration of Patrick of Ireland, a missionary in the 4th century who shared the message of Jesus. His story is inspiring but often overshadowed by the cultural trappings of March 17th. This coloring page would be a perfect companion to telling the real story of Patrick.
In her artwork, Mandy shows a teenage boy looking across water toward home. The illustration includes a simple scripture reference. We encourage you to read this verse and talk about the connection as kids work on their picture.
Colossians 1:13-14
He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Suggested Talking Points
Depending on your class setting, you could spend some time sharing the story of St. Patrick. The older Veggie Tales version is helpful and linked above. Here are some teacher discussion points to get you started.
- How do you think Patrick felt when he was taken far from home?
- Have you ever turned to God in prayer when you are afraid?
- Why would Patrick go back to a place that had been so sad for him?
- How can we learn to forgive and bless those how hurt us?
