Extraordinary People

What if I lived during “Bible times”? Would I be included in the Bible? What would have been written about my life? These questions meld in my head as I reflect on my life, my actions, and my decisions.
There are extraordinary people whose lives have been documented for all time in the greatest book of all time. We can read in Hebrews 11 all about Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Moses, along with many others whose faith was extraordinary. We can read about Ruth and Esther and their incredible choices to not think only of themselves, but of the others around them. These are just a few of the extraordinary people we can read about.
It says in James 5:11 (NASB), “Behold, we count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.” Job had such endurance to get through all that he went through. He lost all of his children, livestock, and basically his fortune. He endured it, though.
Would I have done the same? Would I have been counted blessed because I endured? Or would I have buckled under the torture knowing that I have lost everything?
We may never know the answer to these questions. If we think about it, though, we have the same extraordinary power that all of these people had. You see, they didn’t do these things on their own. Judges 7:2 (NASB) says, “And the Lord said to Gideon, ‘The people who are with you are too many for Me to give Midian into their hands, lest Israel become boastful, saying, ‘My own power has delivered me.’”
It was God who delivered the Midianites into the hands of Gideon and his 300 men. They didn’t do it themselves!
We don’t have to do it ourselves either! In Luke 1:37 (NASB), it states, “For nothing will be impossible with God.” Did you notice how it says “with” God. It’s impossible without God, but WITH Him who created us, anything is possible! What an encouragement!
We can all be like the people in the Bible because we have access to the same supernatural powers that they did! “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 (NASB)
Amen!
