At a relationship level, VBS brings communities and churches together. Spiritually, a Vacation Bible School helps children and adults mature in the knowledge of God and His word. Having a fun theme attached to your VBS will draw new faces to your program and keep them coming back. A baseball theme is perfect for girls, boys and adults. A baseball theme is perfect for building some team competition amongst the age groups. Baseball themed decorating and apparel is inexpensive and easy to find. You can find baseball goodies at party supply and dollar stores. Use these creative ideas for a baseball themed VBS at your church.
Baseball Bases
Assign each classroom a base, like first, second, third and home. Cover the doors with butcher paper. Draw the base on the door and write the number in the center. Have teachers or students rotate through the bases during your VBS. Have the baseball craft in one room and the object lesson in another. Teach the main lesson to small groups in the “Home Run” room. You could use this idea in a large room too. Instead of covering doors, assign each center a base name. These ideas for a baseball themed VBS will create excitement in your ministry.
Coaches
Give teachers baseball caps and whistles. Each team should have it’s own color. Use these colors throughout the baseball VBS. Surprise “coaches” with goodie bags at the beginning of the VBS for their encouragement. Give them chewing gum, bags of peanuts and sweatbands for their head and wrists. Include a personal card of encouragement and thank them in advance for their commitment to their teams and the church at large. Introduce the coaches at the main assemblies. Play “Take Me out to the Ball Game” in the background for fun.
Scriptures
A baseball theme VBS is perfect for teaching kids about unity and working together. Pick scriptures like Romans 14:19 “Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.” (KJV) Alternatively, 1 Cor. 12:12-13 “For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we e Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.” (KJV)
