I wanted to study Aaron, Moses, and Joshua with my Wednesday night kids (grades 2nd-5th). These three men were around all at the same time and I wanted to work through them together.
The kids in my class know the basics and have heard the Bible stories of Moses and of Jericho, but I don’t think they know much more than that. I thought this was a great way to learn about these three men of Israel.
Each child will need a printout, a piece of construction paper, scissors, glue, and a marker. Have the children fold their construction paper in thirds, so that you’ll end up with three columns to work with. At the top of the columns, label them as “Aaron”, “Moses”, and “Joshua”. I then had the kids cut out the slips of paper from the printout and try to guess where each of them go. As we read and discussed each paper, we glued it in place in the correct column.
We first talked about Aaron and went through the papers that went with him:
– Levitical priest (Hebrews 7:11)
– brother of Moses (Exodus 4:14)
– staff turned Egypt’s water into blood (Exodus 7:19)
– spoke against Moses for marrying a Cushite woman (Numbers 12:1-15)
– created a golden calf (Exodus 32)
– died at age 123 on Mount Hor (Numbers 33:39)
Moses was next:
– Hebrew prophet
– wrote first 5 books of the Bible
– a fugitive from Pharaoh’s court (Exodus 2)
– shepherd in Midian (Exodus 3)
– led the people from Egypt (Exodus 14)
– delivered God’s law (Exodus 20)
– was not allowed to enter Promised Land (Deuteronomy 34)
– God buried him (Deuteronomy 34:6)
Then Joshua:
– Hebrew military leader (Exodus 17)
– one of the original spies (Numbers 13:16)
– joined Moses on the mountain of God (Exodus 24:13)
– led the people into the Promised land (Joshua 3)
