Seventh (7th) Commandment Coloring Page - You Shall Not Commit Adultery

You Shall Not Commit Adultery Coloring Page – 7th Commandment

Teaching kids the Seventh Commandment doesn’t need to be awkward. The key point is that marriage is a gift from God to be respected and honored. In our simplified 10 Commandments for Kids we used the affirmative “Respect Marriage Promises.” Here’s the artist’s idea behind our illustration above:

I was thinking here that the “blank” faces represent the people outside of marriage.  The idea being, we only have eyes for our spouse.  I hope this one makes sense!

The image for this coloring sheet has a man & wife dressed in traditional wedding clothes. They are encased in a large heart showing they are now connected and separate from all others. The line drawing faces outside the hear are without faces. This is a way to picture how they are simply not a part the special relationship God has given the married couple.

We follow a traditional approach to teaching the Ten Commandments (aka the Decalogue). This means we see both the negative command (do not) and the positive implications (do this). The model for this is Jesus summary of the Old Testament law in Matthew 22:35-40 where he says the love God and love your neighbor.

This command is from Exodus 20:14 which states:

“You shall not commit adultery.
